About me - Blog one
I’m James, an experienced Worcestershire Farrier. I’ve been passionate about the care and welfare of horses all my life and decided from a young age that working with horses was my vocation. I studied at Warwickshire College to learn equine anatomy, tool making and blacksmithing. After a four year apprenticeship I proudly qualified as a registered Farrier in 2003 . I’m using these blogs as an online portfolio of my work, which I hope will demonstrate the difference an expert farrier can make to the comfort and conformation of the horse. I also hope to share my knowledge and expertise with others whilst continuing my own research and professional development.
I’m lucky that my office space spans the beautiful Worcestershire and Warwickshire countryside. My successful business was established over 20 years ago and offers a high-quality mobile hoof trimming and shoeing service, which includes barefoot trimming and remedial farriery.
The horses and clients I work with range from elite showjumpers and event horses; broodmares and youngstock, to beloved family ponies and happy hackers. I collaborate with owners, vets, and equine hospitals to share knowledge and provide bespoke shoeing plans and corrective farriery.
I began riding at the age of 4 and thoroughly enjoyed my time as a member of the North London District Pony Club. By age 12, I had been selected for a riding scholarship at Eton college, and as I teenager I regularly competed in national showjumping events. It was apparent from an early age I was destined for a career working with horses.
I spent my apprenticeship in the North West of England honing my trade on race yards and riding schools. I studied at Warwickshire College and now I continue to attend CPD events around the country.
I met my wife at a horse driving trials event in Cheshire. Fast forward twenty years and we now have three wonderful children and a golden retriever ‘Blue’. Outside of the equine world my interests lie in motor sports particularly following Formula One. I hope you enjoy reading my website and blogs.
